Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos on Wednesday inspected newly-renovated Tolu Schools Complex, comprising 36 schools with a student population of nearly 20,000.
The inspection of the major educational hub near Ajegunle is in preparation for its inauguration by President Bola Tinubu.
Sanwo-Olu, who toured the expansive facility for more than two hours, said that the project underscored his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and delivery of quality and affordable education.
The project included renovation of old school buildings and construction of new ones.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the level of work done on the school complex established in 1981 on a reclaimed land at Olodi-Apapa by the Alhaji Lateef Jakande administration.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s resolve to continue investing in critical education infrastructure.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Bola Tinubu is expected to inaugurate the 36 schools in the Tolu Schools Complex soon.
The school complex comprises 16 junior secondary schools, 15 senior secondary schools and five primary schools.
Situated on 11.73 hectares of land and bordered by a lagoon, the complex also boasts of sporting and recreational facilities, including a football field, basketball and volleyball courts.
Sanwo-Olu decribed Tolu Schools Complex as the largest school community in Africa.
He assured Lagos residents that his administration would continue to prioritise projects that would improve learning outcomes and enhance the future of children.
During the inspection, residents of Olodi Apapa/Ajegunle community trooped out in large numbers to thank the governor for improving the iconic complex.
Some students in the complex, who briefly interacted with Sanwo-Olu, commended him for providing new and modern learning facilities.
