In an era where data and information drive decisions and determine organizational survival, experts have called for a more strategic, ethical, and technology-driven approach to managing financial information in modern institutions.

This charge was the highlight of a high-level workshop held in Babcock University.Themed “Managing Financial Data as a Strategic Organizational Resource: The Role of Data Management Systems in Modern Organizations,” the programme was the brainchild of two Departments of the University: Information and Resource Management and Finance.

In his presentation, the Vice President of Financial Administration/University Bursar, Folorunsho Akande noted that sound financial data management is no longer an option but critical to institutional success.“Financial records go beyond numbers.

They are a reflection of human behaviour, ethics, and integrity,” he said, adding, “Accurate and accessible financial data remains the backbone of modern investment decisions. Credibility in data is indispensable in today’s financial analysis landscape.

Expressing similar views, Dr. Oladipupo Adekunle Bamiro, who represented the President of the Association of Applied Information Management Professionals (AIMP), emphasized the ethical demands of the information management profession.

He described the field as one that requires not only technical expertise but also unwavering commitment to accountability, accuracy, and integrity. “Information is power, but managing it effectively is wisdom,” Bamiro said, noting that robust information management systems hold the potential to elevate Nigeria’s institutional and economic landscape.

The workshop also featured the formal induction of new members into the AIMP, signaling a renewed commitment to professional excellence in data and information management.

The induction ceremony was coordinated by the Association’s Registrar, Mr. Abayomi Olufeyomi Agunloye, during which inductees took the oath of professional responsibility.

The event concluded with a call for continuous learning, ethical practice, and the adoption of advanced data management systems as organisations navigate an increasingly complex financial environment.
