The Nigerian Navy has warned the Niger Delta Avengers against carrying out its threat to start bombing oil facilities in the Niger Delta.

The warning was given on Tuesday by the Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ibas, while speaking with journalists at the Eastern Naval Command headquarters in Calabar.

He said that it would be wrong of any group or individual to threaten the peace and unity of the country.

According to him, the Navy would resist such a move.

His words:  “We are prepared for any group that threatens the unity and peace of our country.

“We are ready to stop all forms of illegal activities on our nation’s economic resources.”

He also spoke about the success of the efforts of the Navy in reducing piracy on the waterways.

“We have in the last two years made a considerable impact of reducing the operations of pirates.

“No individual or group including the Niger Delta Avengers has the audacity to threaten the country and we will also make sure that Nigerians can use the maritime space unhindered,” he said.

It would be recalled that the Niger Delta Avengers recently threatened to resume hostilities in the Niger Delta.

According to the group, the federal government had not fulfilled its promise which made them to stop the bombing of oil installations in the areas.
