South African singer Tyla has once again etched her name in Grammy history, winning the Best African Music Performance award at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, held on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The 24-year-old artiste clinched the honour with her song Push 2 Start, securing her second consecutive victory in the category. She first won the award in 2024 for her global smash hit “Water”, becoming the first artiste to win the category twice since its introduction.
Tyla’s latest triumph further amplifies her growing influence on the global music scene and reinforces her status as one of Africa’s most successful young pop exports. The Best African Music Performance category, created in 2024, celebrates recordings that authentically showcase African sounds and creativity.
Her back-to-back wins have drawn attention to her distinctive ability to fuse amapiano, pop and R&B, crafting a sound that resonates with international audiences. Push 2 Start, taken from her self-titled debut album Tyla released in 2024, gained massive traction across streaming platforms and social media, fueled by viral dance challenges.
This year’s category was fiercely contested, featuring a strong line-up dominated by African topshots, particularly from Nigeria. Other nominees included Burna Boy (Love), Davido featuring Omah Lay (With You), Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid (Gimme Dat), and Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin (Hope & Love).
