The Lagos State Police Command has detained social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, after a video of him driving dangerously while live on social media resulted in a serious motor accident.
The police said the incident occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, and described the suspect’s actions as “suicidal” and capable of endangering the lives of other road users.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect, whose actions posed a grave risk to public safety.
“The suspect was seen driving at a dangerous speed during a live broadcast, leading to a motor accident that posed grave risks to himself and innocent members of the public,” Adebisi said.
The police stated that the case is currently under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The outcome of the probe will be made public, and Peller will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction upon conclusion.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, used the incident to issue a strong caution to the public.
He warned: “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly warns social media influencers, content creators and general members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful and criminal acts.
“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated and the full weight of the law will be applied on any offender. The Command further urges all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations and remains committed to ensuring public peace and safety at all times.”
