The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the closure of all second-hand-materials markets, popularly called Pantaker markets in the Capital City.
The Next Edition reports that the FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, stated this on Thursday. Disu.
While addressing newsmen, the Commissioner said the closure period was two weeks to give the Command ample time to profile operators of the markets.
Disu further announced a ban on the activities of scavengers in Abuja. This followed increasing theft of manholes across the Capital City. He warned that defaulters of the ban would be made to face the law.
His words: “All Pantakers in the Federal Capital Territory have been closed for two weeks for them to come forward for us to profile them. We want to know who and who are operating in all the Pantakers and scavenging has been banned in the Federal Capital Territory.
“The only place we can see them is out of town completely and they must be on the downside. That’s the only place they can operate. We don’t want them on any street. We don’t want them moving around the town. If they are seen, call us, they will be arrested immediately. We want to enjoin members of the public to continue to give us wonderful information, to continue to cooperate with us. The Pantakers remain closed.” Naija News
