President Muhammadu Buhari is to lay the estimates for the 2018 Budget to a joint session of the National Assembly on Tuesday.

This was made known on Thursday at the chambers of the National Assembly.

A letter to that effect was sent to the House of Representatives and the Senate.

In the letter, the president said he would formally address a joint session of the National Assembly at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The letter reads:

“Pursuant to section 81 of the 1999 constitution, may I crave the kind indulgence of the National Assembly to grant me the slot of 1400hrs on Tuesday, 7th November 2017 to formally address a Joint Session and lay before the National Assembly the 2018 Budget Proposal.

“Please extend, Mr. Speaker, the assurances of my highest regards to the Honourable Members as I look forward to addressing the Joint Session.”

It would be recalled that the Federal Executive Council ‎ approved the draft of the 2018 budget proposal last Thursday.

Briefing State House correspondents shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, said a date would be fixed in liaison with the National Assembly for President Muhammadu Buhari to submit the draft documents.
