A young girl in her twenties from Benue State, Dorcas Mseer, who is expected to write her West African Examination Council, WAEC, this year may, after all, not be sitting for this exam after she was duped of N134,500.
Painfully, Dorcas, is visually impaired, a situation which her supposed “helper” took advantage of and allegedly swapped her ATM for an expired one.
The 21 year old student attends the Special School for Exceptional Students Aliade in Gwer East local government area of Benue state. She was supposed to pay all her school fees and pay for WAEC and NECO registration before she will be allowed to sit for them but these dreams will become a wish if she does not get help and urgently too.
Narrating her ordeal to The Next Edition in Makurdi, Dorcas who hails from Ushongo local government area, said she left home to withdraw money from her Union Bank account in Gboko LGA before heading to school in Aliade for registration.
Dorcas said due to her bad eyesight, she decided to ask for help from a good Nigerian to enable her make the withdrawal.
She said she gave the man both the ATM card and the secret pin code and he successfully carried out the transaction.
According to her, after the transaction, instead of returning her ATM card, the “helper” swapped her card with an expired one which she took and left back to school.
The SS3 student said the incident took place on the 2nd of December, 2021.
She lamented that while in school, she started receiving messages on her phone and on asking her mates to read it out, she was told to her amazement, that it was withdrawal she is making from the bank.
“It was discovered that the ‘yahoo’, ‘yahoo’ boy went to POS in Gboko and had withdrawn money in my account to the tune of N143,500.

Breaking down in tears, Dorcas said, “This money was savings from my farm produce and I intended to use it to register my WAEC and NECO exams.”
“At the moment, I’m at the risk of missing registration and payment of school fees. I’m calling for help. Anyone touched by the spirit of God should pls help me. I don’t want my dream of going to school to die like this.”
Miss Dorcas who is also an orphan said she intends to study Special Education at tertiary institution if she gets support.
She called on Governor Samuel Ortom, his wife and other good spirited Benue citizens and Nigerians to come to her aide to make her dreams come true.
A lawyer and activist, Barr Antaav Kume who is following the matter, stated that he got to know about the incident some couple of weeks ago and is trying to assist the victim get help to register for the two examinations and also pay her school fees.
He said he has also decided to take up the matter in court to bring the culprit to justice.
Barr. Kume expressed concern that the victim is an orphan and a girl child, trying to earn education and called on the government to give her a job as an encouragement.
