Despite the state House of Assembly’s recommendations on Tuesday asking for the sack of Ahmed Tijani, former Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, now Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, has turned down their demand.

The embattled SSG was conspicuously seen at Government House, Lafia, sitting next to the deputy governor during the high powered stakeholders’ meeting.

It would be recalled that last Tuesday, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly passed a resolution asking Sule to sack the SSG over his indictment in a N1.5 billion renovation and fencing of public secondary schools in the state.

Ahmed Tijani was accused of embezzling over N248.5m meant for the renovation of and building of secondary schools across the state in 2018 when he was the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in the previous administration.

A member of the state House of Assembly who spoke on condition of anonymity said any further delay by the governor to relieve the SSG of his appointment was an invitation to a showdown between the legislature and executive.

He said: “The resolution of the House as directed by the Speaker, Ibrahim Balarabe, was that the governor should remove the SSG with immediate effect and be made to refund the money he embezzled. But, up to this moment, the governor has not acted in that direction. Well, we are watching.”
