Efforts are in top gear to recall Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District from the Senate.
Already, no fewer than 188, 588 voters, representing 52.3 per cent of the total number of registered voters in his senatorial district have approved his recall.
Announcing the approval gathered so far, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Political Affairs, Pius Kolawole, on Monday, said that the exercise was carried out on Saturday.
Kolawole who made the disclosure while speaking with party members from the district expressed happiness over the turnout of voters.
He said the action of the voters were in conformity with Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution.
Said he: “In 2015, we voted for Dino and now we are using the same method to return him home.” he said.
The Returning Officer who announced the result of the collation, Adamu Yusuf, said that with 188, 588 out of the 360,098 in the senatorial district calling for his recall, the job was as good as completed.
He said the next action to be taken was the submission of the result to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In the breakdown of the result of the exercise, Yusuf said 18, 374 of the total number of 35,331 registered voters in Yagba East approved the recall while out of the 18,356 voters in Mopa-Muro local government area, 9,186 voted for his recall.
He said at Yagba West, 24, 703 out of 46, 810 voters supported the bid and 63,736 out of 116,296 in Lokoja Local Government did the same.
At Ijumu local government area, 24,283 out of 46,819 supported the move while in Kabba/Bunu local government, 28,277 out of 60, 520 voters supported the exercise.
24,703 out of 46,810 voters in Kogi local government voted against Melaye’s continued representation at the Senate.
