No fewer than 44 people have died as a result of flooding in Jibia local government area of Katsina State on Sunday.
Also, 20 other persons are missing.
The Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari made this known on Monday after inspecting the areas affected by the disaster.
He added that no fewer than 500 houses were destroyed with thousands of people already rendered homeless.
‘’I can say that I have never seen this kind of disaster in my life.
‘’The water level is above 10 feet and it is a purely a natural disaster as the government had constructed drainages that were emptying into Jibia River.

‘’The water from the river moved in a reverse order and came back to the town and caused the flooding.
‘’I have seen a young groom of three days old who lost his bride and still searching for her,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the victims have been relocated to a primary school while the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, had provided relief materials.
The Ministry of Environment, the governor said, had been directed to find a solution to the problem that caused the disaster.
