The governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, in Benue state, Rev. Frederick Ikyaan, on Wednesday, inaugurated the state campaign council ahead of the February and March general elections.
The body known as Ikyaan/Ajegi Campaign Council was inaugurated in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, amidst cheers and chants of the party’s slogan, “PRP… Victory.”
Speaking at the inauguration, Ikyaan said the campaign council, whose members were carefully selected, has the responsibility to creatively design ways of reaching the people through the campaigns.
He urged them to consider their assignment as a call to service and to give their all in ensuring that the central message of their campaign responds to the yearnings of the Benue people.
“We must above all, remain faithful to the invitation of God to build a new and prosperous Benue that both offers opportunities and brings prosperity to all.”
Ikyaan also called on his teeming supporters to rededicate themselves to the task ahead and to support the council to realize set objectives.
The Reverend who stressed lack of peace, unemployment, grinding poverty and striking inequalities within Benue amidst unprecedented wealth says the campaigns provide a rationale to review and reassess the values, systems and institutions and establish dynamic and smart ones that can respond to emerging challenges.
According to him, when voted into power, his administration will be anchored on healing and reconciliation among the people of the state driven with the zeal to help the Benue people think and act like a Nation.
Earlier, the state party chairman, Timothy Malu said PRP has come to take Benue back to the time of Aper Aku and Fr Moses Adasu when government was about development of the people.
“Governance in Benue stopped at Adasu’s time. Today the state is down. PRP is a party for the masses and we will return that regime where only the masses matter,” he said.
He explained that the party’s candidate, Ikyaan, is a man of his own with no godfathers and called on the people to support him.

The campaign council is chaired by Rev. Ikyaan and has the following members, Mr Sabastine Agbinda as Alternate chairman, Simon Ajegi (Deputy Guber candidate) as Vice Chairman, Justin Gbagir (State Party Legal Adviser) as state campaign council Secretary.
Other members are Timothy Malu, Tarsoo Ade, Bonka Gavar, Simon Chianson, James Vandefan (Senatorial candidate Zone A), Rt. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange, Jack Malya, Stephen Ngavan, Elijah Akper, John Oga Ominyi and Tyough Beetseh, Kwegi Hyacinth, Denis Ahulo, Hon. Ene Odoh, Akule Chia, Mrs Grace Assoh, Mrs Justine Oogwu, Rev. Mena Timothy, Rev. Fr. Tile Godwin and Elias Adikwu.
Speaking on behalf of the council members, the alternate chairman, Sabastine Agbinda thanked the party for entrusting them with the responsibility and pledged to deliver on their mandate.
