No One Is Above The Law, Lalong Tells Farmers, Herders

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has advised people of the state to submit themselves to investigation whenever security agencies are on manhunt for criminals operating under any guise.

This, he said, would ensure that innocent citizens would not be subjected to untold hardship for offences they did not commit.

Lalong made the call in Jos at the closing of a three-day conference on ‘The Inter-faith Perspective of Resolving the Farmers and Herders Conflict in Plateau State.’

Lalong tasked the conference participants to be open by suggesting possible ways the cycle of violence in the state could be brought to an end.

He maintained that until recently, no violence was recorded in any part of the state in the first three years of his administration.

He disclosed that once the two committees he set up for relocation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) submitted their reports, the displaced would be returned to their communities.

Lalong stated that the government was making concerted efforts to build Police mobile barracks at Gashish District of Barkinladi local government council and in Bachit district of restive community of Riyom council and other hot spots in the state.

According to him, once the security posts were put in place in these communities, they would provide security for the returnees from further attacks in their home lands.

Rev. Yakubu Pam, Convener of the conference and Chairman of the Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), said the essence of the conference was to come up with suggestions on what should be done to end the conflicts between the Berom natives of Plateau State and their Fulani neighbours.

Pam stressed that it was joyful for principal actors in Berom and Fulani crisis to agree to work hard for peace in the state.
