Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, said the governors resolved that their campaigns would be issue-based.

According to him, Nigerians had become more enlightened and would want to be well-informed about the programmes of anyone coming to office.

He said it was no longer time for abuse.

“Our election this time will not engage in castigations, we will be talking on issues. Nigerians are tired of political abuses, what we want to be talking about are issues and track records of people involved in our elections….

“Nigerians are very wise now. Before they elect anybody, the will ask questions: What has been your track record? Who were you before and who are you now? For that reason, we are confident that 2019, APC will pull through,” he said.

He said the meeting considered too, the disagreements that ensued over the primaries conducted by the party and the need to resolve them.

“In every democracy, we expect some kind of disagreements and we have kindly requested that something be done to bring all warring factions together so we can have a united party to face the challenges ahead,” he said.

He said it was necessary to have a united party so that they would be able to fight the battle ahead together.

Okorocha said they had appealed to the president to reconcile all the warring factions and move the party forward.
