Embattled governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, has conceded defeat in the gubernatorial primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He has therefore congratulated the winner, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In the spirit of sportsmanship, Ambode who addressed the press on Wednesday said APC was a great party and appealed to the people of Lagos to give Sanwo-Olu the needed support in the 2019 election.
He also promised to ensure a smooth transition.
Ambode spoke for the first time since Tuesday’s primary which saw him whipped by the party’s favourite, Sanwo-Olu, who polled 970,851 votes as against his (Ambode) 72,901 votes.
The Chief Clement Ebri-led electoral panel set up by the National Working Committee of the APC to oversee the primary had earlier cancelled the exercise on the grounds that the party’s guideline were not followed.
It, however, reversed itself to announce Sanwo-Olu as winner of the exercise.
