Gunmen kill policeman, abduct German engineer

A policeman attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU) on escort duty was killed in Kano on Monday by some unknown gunmen.

The gunmen also kidnapped a German engineer, Michael Cremza, who works with Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company.

It was gathered that the incident happened at about 8.45 a.m. on Monday when the gunmen ambushed the vehicle conveying some staff of the construction company.

The gunmen were said to have opened fire on the vehicle, killing the policeman who was on escort duty.

It was at that point that they were said to have abducted the engineer.

They shot into the air as they forced the engineer into their vehicle and sped off.

Confirming the incident to journalists, the spokesman of the Kano State Command, SP Magaji Majiya, said the gunmen trailed the car conveying Grenza at Sabon Titi Madobi Road, Kano.

He, however, said the police had begun spirited moves to arrest the criminals.
