Military kills three suicide bombers in Maiduguri

A major disaster was averted in Maiduguri on Wednesday as the attempt by three female suicide bombers to attack a military outpost was foiled.

The three bombers were sighted as they tried to enter the military outpost popularly called “Guantanamo” along Muna garage.

Suspecting their moves, the security men on guard shot them and detonated their concealed explosives.

The three suicide bombers died in the process and one of the security personnel involved in the detonation was injured.

A statement by the spokesman of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), Abdulkadir Ibrahim, confirming this reads:
“Yesterday (Wednesday) night 3/5/2017, at 10:05 pm, three female teenage suicide bombers attempted to attack military outpost popularly known as “Guantanamo” along Muna garage.

“They were sighted trying to gain access to the premises and were shot by the securities leading to the detonation of their concealed explosives, which killed all three of them and injured one of the security personnel.”

Ibrahim revealed that the corpses of the three were evacuated to Borno State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri by emergency aid workers.

The foiled suicide attempt is the latest in recent time.

Since the terrorists group, Boko Haram, were dislodged from its Sambisa forest, it had embarked on a number of suicide bombing exercises, using women.

On April 26 this year, a similar attempt was foiledd in Maiduguri by the police.

In the attempt, a lone female suicide bomber detonated IED strapped to her body at Alkomi area, near the fence of Dynamics Farms in the outskirt of Maiduguri, in Jere local government area.

She died in the process.

Almost the same time, a male suicide bomber who attempted to gain entrance into an IDP host community in Usmanti area in Mafa local government area was stopped by residents.

He detonated the explosive on him and died in the process.

A resident was also killed.
